How can I take infrared pictures with a regular camera?
I want to take "artsy" pictures and I wanted to know how I can learn to take infrared pictures or something similar.
You'll need infrared film, either from an internet source or a local camera store, and a red filter for the lens or lenses you plan on using.
Infrared film must be loaded into your camera in total darkness, so either pre-load the camera in a dark room, or carry a few heavy blankets to hide under when changing rolls.
VERY IMPORTANT: Infrared light is not at the same focal length as regular light. Most camera lenses still have a small red line next to the regular focus line. Once you find your focas point, carefully move the focus point so that it lines up with the red line.
With the red filter in place you are ready to go.
There might be one or two things I'm forgetting. You might check your local library for books on infrared photography, or speak to someone at the shop where you buy the film.
