Damascus Knife Making
How do I clean a Damascus steel blade?

I just bought a high quality steel knife with a extremely high carbon content which makes the blade rust faster, but also means it will hold its edge, and is much stronger than a regular knife. I was wondering if there were any special methods of cleaning surrounding damascus steel, and what methods can i use to clean it?

Firstly Zach, by no mean is a damascus blade as strong, or stronger than a blade made of modern homologous steel... forged from a bit of barstock of known quality. You, and many others need to get rid of that impression.

Secondly, a bit of steel wool, and patience will do it. I pattern weld, and after etching in ferric chloride, they usually get the steel wool/vinegar treatment.

0000 wool, and a lot of patience. Bring it up to a buffing wheel, and take it slow with the rouge.
