can you have a effective silencer on a AK 47 or SVD Dragunov?
just wondering because i never see real ones with silencers.
if they cant then if you can, explain why please.

Yes you can. While the gas ports on these guns let out lots of noise, these rifles can still benefit with a good silencer. I have also read complaints about muzzle threads that can mount a flash suppressor, but are not straight enough to properly mount a silencer.
While the silencer can reduce noise by 30 decibels, the gas port noise and supersonic booms from the high speed ammo may keep it loud enough to require ear plugs. Subsonic ammo can reduce noise by eliminating the sonic boom and using a reduced powder charge, but is not powerful enough to cycle the action.
Check out the forums at http://www.subguns.com and http://www.silencertalk.com for people who have used suppressed AK rifles. Most of these manufacturers, http://www.silencertalk.com/links.htm make silencers suitable for AK's and can also make an adaptor to mount the silencer to the rifle.
I make silencers as a hobby. Silencers are legal in the USA, but only 37 states allow unlicensed civilians to own them. There is also ATF approval and a $200 tax required before buying or making one. I was not able to make the muzzle threads perfectly straight, so I moved the front sight back and will mount the silencer over the barrel instead of just at the end.
