NEF Handi Rifle Bull Barrel?
I live in Louisiana and i'm getting a new primitive weapons rifle. The NEF Handi Rifle is accepted by the new single shot law (t/c encore isn't) and I'm thinking about getting the .45/70 or .444 (advice wanted). I saw a NEF Handi Rifle with a bull barrel with the laminat thumbhole stock but I'd prefer the black/stainless. Do they make one black/stainless with a bull barrel?
Also, the laminat stainless didn't come with open sights, and I'd prefer the iron sights on it.
Here's a link to their website. Spend a few minutes tinkering around and see if you can find what you are looking for. Between the calibers you list, I'd opt for the 45/70. I have a Marlin Lever Action in 45/70. Awesome caliber. I handload 405 grain cast bullets with trailboss powder to about 1000 fps. There is no recoil, very quiet (it's sub sonic), and it's just one of those loads you can't shoot and not smile. It is a great pratice load. For hunting I'd use the new leverevolution ammo from hornady. Good load. The .444 is just not as common. Might be harder to find ammo. I'm probably just partial to the 45/70 because I have one and my brother has the exact same gun in 444 (the rifles were my grandpa's). Also buffalo bore loads some ammo for the 45/70 that is just amazing. Some loads would be suitable for even cape buffalo. I'm not sure I'm man enough to touch one off in the H&R. Another caliber you may have overlooked is the 500 S&W. I've heard it is nothing short of awesome in the H&R. Cor bond loads a couple of different pressure levels in the 500, so you could sort of tailor it to your preference. Good luck.
